Arab Climate Pavilion to launch at COP31 in Türkiye

The League of Arab States and the Global Carbon Footprint Council (GCC) have announced the launch of the Arab Climate Pavilion as a joint platform during the 31st Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP31), scheduled to be held in Antalya, Turkey, from November 9 to 20.

The pavilion, which is designed to be a platform for regional and international communication, aims to bring together representatives of governments, institutions, business and practitioners in the field of climate action, to exchange experiences, build partnerships and support the practical implementation of climate action, in line with the objectives of Article VI of the Paris Agreement.

The statement pointed out that the pavilion, with its inclusive Arab identity and international aspirations, will provide all participants from different countries and sectors with opportunities to strengthen regional partnerships, exchange experiences and support joint action in the field of climate action on the global stage, and its agenda and program will be revealed ahead of COP31.

Commenting on the collaboration, Dr. Yousef bin Mohammed Al Horr, Founder and Chairman of the Global Carbon Footprint Council (GCC), said: "Tackling climate change requires collaboration that transcends borders, bringing together different capabilities and visions. Our cooperation with the League of Arab States reflects a shared commitment to advancing climate action in support of sustainable development, and through the Arab Climate Pavilion, we aim to strengthen the links between regional ambitions and international cooperation, and build partnerships that contribute to sustainable progress that benefits the region and the world."

H.E. Ambassador Dr. Ali bin Ibrahim Al-Malki, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Economic Affairs Sector at the League of Arab States, said: "The Arab Climate Pavilion will provide a space for Arab countries and their partners from around the world to raise priorities, exchange experiences and explore areas of common interest. In collaboration with the Global Carbon Footprint Council, we look forward to strengthening communication between governments, institutions and stakeholders, and supporting a constructive dialogue that opens up wider horizons for cooperation in achieving environmental and climate goals."

It is noteworthy that the joint organization of the Arab Climate Pavilion comes within the framework of a memorandum of understanding signed by the League of Arab States last year with the Gulf Organization for Research and Development (GORD), with the aim of enhancing cooperation in the fields of climate action, reducing carbon emissions, the energy sector transition and environmental sustainability.
