The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has announced the start of Qatar's migratory bird hunting season on September 1, with the season continuing until February 15, 2027.
The season is regulated under Ministerial Decision No. 7 of 2026, which specifies the bird species that may be hunted as well as the permitted hunting methods and equipment.
The Ministry urged hunters to comply with all regulations and restrictions throughout the season, stressing that the measures are intended to protect wildlife, preserve biodiversity and support the sustainability of Qatar's natural resources and ecological balance.
The decision permits the hunting of 10 specified bird species, including the houbara bustard, curlew, duck, blue rock thrush and song thrush, alongside other species named in the ministerial decision.
Hunting any animals, birds or wild reptiles that are not included on the approved list is prohibited under national legislation governing environmental and wildlife protection.
The Ministry also stressed that houbara bustards may only be hunted using falcons.
Hunters are prohibited from using unauthorised methods or equipment, particularly devices that imitate bird calls, due to their potential negative impact on wildlife and the ecological balance.
The Ministry called on all hunters to practise hunting responsibly and comply with environmental legislation, emphasising that protecting wildlife and its natural habitats is a shared responsibility that contributes to preserving biodiversity for future generations.
