Qatar Face Thailand in 2026 AVC Men's Volleyball Continental Championship Opener

Qatar will open their campaign at the 2026 AVC Men's Volleyball Continental Championship against Thailand on Saturday in Fukuoka, Japan.

Qatar are in Group C alongside Thailand, Chinese Taipei and the Republic of Korea. They will face Chinese Taipei on Sunday before concluding the group stage against the Republic of Korea on September 8.

The national team prepared for the tournament with a training camp in Slovenia from August 15 to 26 under Argentine coach Camilo Soto. The programme focused on physical and technical readiness, tactical options and strengthening cohesion within the squad.

Qatar played three friendly matches against Egypt during the camp, in addition to matches against teams from the Slovenian professional league. Nine new players also took part in the preparation phase as part of the team's squad renewal process.

After the continental championship, Qatar will remain in Japan for the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, scheduled from September 19 to October 4.

Under the official tournament format, the top two teams in each of the three groups and the two best third-placed teams advance to the quarter-finals.
