The first day of the historic Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe meeting begins today, Friday, on the turf at Saint-Cloud Racecourse in the French capital, Paris. The meeting, sponsored by the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club, continues until Oct. 5.
Two major Group 1 races for three-year-old Purebred Arabians over 2,000 metres will be held: the Qatar Prize for Purebred Arabian Colts and the Qatar Prize for Purebred Arabian Fillies. The races will identify the leading horses in this age category in Europe, with attention turning first to the colts' race followed by the fillies' race.
Nine distinguished colts will compete in the Group 1 Qatar Prize for three-year-old Purebred Arabian Colts, with strong competition expected given the promising names among the entries. The Group 1 Qatar Prize for three-year-old Purebred Arabian Fillies will feature 13 fillies.
Meanwhile, the horse show and trading activity took centre stage at Saint-Cloud Racecourse yesterday, Thursday, with this year's edition of the Arqana Purebred Arabian Sale, which attracted a distinguished international attendance alongside a delegation from the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club.
The auction catalogue contained 78 horses, comprising 56 two-year-olds, six yearlings and 16 racehorses, including five wild-card entries and 11 breeding horses. The auction attracted strong interest and demand from buyers, resulting in an excellent sales rate across all categories and creating positive momentum in horse-trading activity.
The Arqana Purebred Arabian Sale is held alongside Qatar's longstanding sponsorship of the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, reaffirming the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club's commitment to supporting Purebred Arabian racing globally, particularly as it has become an integral part and a central, established feature of the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe programme.
