Qatar has achieved third place globally and the bronze medal in the team competition at the International Olympiad on Climate Change and Environmental Issues (IOCE 2026).
The competition was held in the Federal Territory of Sirius in Russia from September 20 to 29, bringing together students from different countries for scientific challenges focused on climate change and environmental issues.
Three individual medals for Qatar
Qatar also secured three individual medals during the competition.
Ibrahim Nasser Al-Mannai and Ahmed Hani Hussain each won silver medals, while Fakhruddin Arkan earned a bronze medal.
The results added to Qatar’s team achievement and highlighted the students’ performance across scientific and research-based challenges.
Climate and environmental modelling in focus
The Olympiad included theoretical and practical rounds covering areas such as climate modelling, environmental modelling, scientific analysis and applied research.
Participants were required to address contemporary environmental issues and demonstrate their ability to apply scientific knowledge to real-world challenges.
Intensive preparation behind the result
The Qatari team underwent academic preparation and intensive training under the supervision of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
The Ministry said the achievement reflects its ongoing efforts to identify and support talented students and prepare them to compete in international scientific competitions.
Strengthening STEM and environmental skills
The result also reflects Qatar’s focus on developing students’ abilities across science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
Particular emphasis is being placed on research skills, environmental awareness and students’ understanding of challenges linked to climate change and sustainability.
The achievement also aligns with the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030, including support for innovative education and sustainable environmental development.
