Qatar is stepping up efforts to control mosquito populations through a mix of advanced technology and eco-friendly solutions, according to the Ministry of Municipality.

As reported by Al Raya, His Excellency Mr. Ali bin Mohammed Al Ali, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Municipality for the Rayyan Region, said the ministry has adopted a comprehensive strategy that uses smart monitoring systems, data analysis and field operations to reduce insect spread, protect public health and improve living conditions.

The system includes geospatial monitoring supported by smart traps that track mosquito density in real time. The data is analysed alongside environmental and climate factors to identify priority areas for intervention.

The ministry is also introducing innovative solutions such as drones to spray pesticides in large or hard-to-reach locations. In parallel, biological methods are being tested, including the use of Gambusia fish, which feed on mosquito larvae in stagnant water.

Al Ali said early results have been positive, with plans to gradually expand these methods in coordination with specialised partners. From January to April 17 this year, the ministry handled more than 25,600 home pest control requests.

Authorities stressed that only approved pesticides are used, applied by trained teams under strict safety guidelines to protect both people and the environment.
