ChatGPT now lets you lock private conversations with a PIN

OpenAI has announced a new feature in ChatGPT that allows users to lock sensitive conversations with a PIN security code, with the aim of enhancing privacy and preventing others from viewing personal conversations when using the phone or device itself.

The "Locked Chats" feature allows the user to hide specific conversations from their regular chat history, pinned conversations, and search results, and can be accessed by entering a four-digit PIN, or via Face ID and Fingerprint on iPhone and Android phones.

To lock a conversation, the user needs to open the options menu next to the conversation, then select "Lock chat" and confirm the selection, and go directly to a dedicated section called "Locked chats" within the "Projects" menu.

The company advises updating apps and checking other devices when the feature is turned on, as the conversation may remain temporarily visible in open tabs on other devices until menus are updated.

OpenAI strongly warns that resetting a PIN if forgotten will permanently delete all locked conversations and files uploaded to them, and this deletion cannot be undone or restored by the support team.

The company has gradually started rolling out the feature to all users, to include free accounts and subscribers to the Go, Plus, and Pro plans.
