Russia's Ministry of Emergency Services announced on Monday that its mobile application used to alert residents of Ukrainian drone attacks in particular has been subjected to a "large-scale cyber attack."
The ministry said in a post on Telegram that its application was subjected to a large-scale cyberattack, which allowed the attackers to spread false information among the population, noting that work is currently underway to address the vulnerability in the application and restore its normal functioning.
In a separate incident, Ukraine's air force said its official app, which is used to receive alerts about Russian airstrikes, had been hit by a cyberattack.
False alerts have been sent to smartphones, warning citizens of nuclear and chemical threats.
The Air Force said on Telegram: "It is likely that the (Air Alert) application has been hacked. There is no radiation threat."
Ukraine's Ministry of Digital Transformation said the app was not working, but other means of warning the public were working, as were air raid sirens.
