Qatar national team weightlifter Fares Ibrahim will compete tomorrow in the men's 95kg category at the 2026 IWF World Championships in Ningbo, China, aiming for a strong result and to maintain Qatar's presence at the sport's leading international events.
The championships began on October 27 and will continue until November 8 at the Ningbo Olympic Sports Center, with 304 male and 306 female weightlifters representing countries from around the world.
Fares Ibrahim is scheduled to begin competing at 7:00 pm China time, 2:00 pm Doha time, in Group A of the men's 95kg category.
The category features several leading international names, including Iran's Ali Alipour, Kazakhstan's Nurgissa Adiletuly, Bulgaria's Karlos May Nasar, Venezuela's Keydomar Giovanni Vallenilla Sanchez and Bosnia and Herzegovina's Yasser Salem, alongside other weightlifters seeking top positions.
Fares Ibrahim's participation carries particular significance given his distinguished record. He won the gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and is among the leading athletes to have delivered global achievements for Qatari weightlifting.
Fares Ibrahim's most recent international appearance before the World Championships came at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games in Japan. He competed in the men's 95kg category on September 28 and finished seventh with a total of 340kg, comprising 150kg in the snatch and 190kg in the clean and jerk.
Fares is competing in the 95kg category at the current World Championships following changes to the internationally approved weight categories. The event is therefore an important opportunity to assess his level against leading world champions and gauge his ability to achieve competitive totals in the category.
The Qatar national weightlifting team's coaching staff, led by coach Ibrahim Hassouna and assistant coach Hassouna Ibrahim Hassouna, hopes Fares will deliver the expected performance and totals reflecting his technical and physical readiness following his preparations for the global event.
The Ningbo championships carry additional importance as the first weightlifting qualification event for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, giving the competition significant value and driving participants to pursue their best totals and results at the start of the road to the next Olympic Games.
