FIP President Says Doha’s World Cup Hosting Marks Major Milestone in Padel’s Development

Italian Luigi Carraro, President of the International Padel Federation (FIP), said Doha’s hosting of the FIP World Cup 2026 represents a major milestone in the sport’s development and global growth, praising the State of Qatar’s organisational capabilities and experience in hosting major international sporting events.

Carraro said the FIP World Cup 2026 is the largest and most important competition in padel, noting that the participation of national teams representing all five continents reflects the sport’s growing global standing and its expanding player base around the world.

The President of the International Padel Federation praised Qatar’s role in supporting and developing the sport, saying the country has become a home for padel. He particularly commended the efforts of H.E. Mr. Nasser bin Ghanim Al-Khelaifi, President of the Qatar Tennis, Squash, Padel and Badminton Federation, in supporting the project and helping achieve its ambitions.

Carraro said the current edition features 32 national teams representing 20 countries, with strong participation from ranked male and female players. The tournament offers prize money of €1.2 million, the highest in the history of padel competitions, distributed equally between the men’s and women’s events in a step reflecting the International Padel Federation’s commitment to promoting equal opportunities between the two.

Carraro addressed the participating players, urging them to enjoy the competition, perform at their best, uphold the highest standards of fair play and sportsmanship, and once again impress the world with their performances. He said: “You are the best 256 players among more than 40 million players around the world. Be proud of yourselves. You will represent every citizen in your countries, which is both a major responsibility and a great honour. Compete with passion, show sportsmanship and fair play, and demonstrate respect for your opponents and match officials.”
