Funeral Prayer Held for HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani in Doha

The funeral prayer for His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani was held in Doha on Sunday evening, July 12, following the Maghrib prayer at Imam Muhammad bin Abdulwahhab Mosque.

The prayer took place hours after the Amiri Diwan announced the passing of the Father Amir at the age of 74. The Amiri Diwan had confirmed that he would be laid to rest at Lusail Cemetery following the funeral prayer.

The Ministry of Interior earlier issued security, traffic and parking guidance for those attending the prayer, as arrangements were made around the mosque to facilitate the funeral proceedings.

HH The Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani served as Amir of the State of Qatar from 1995 to 2013. The Amiri Diwan describes him as one of Qatar’s most prominent leaders and the architect of the country’s modern revival, during which Qatar underwent significant economic, social and cultural transformation and strengthened its regional and international standing.

His leadership was closely associated with Qatar’s emergence as a global energy power, the development of major education, healthcare and infrastructure institutions, and the expansion of the country’s diplomatic and international presence.

In 2013, HH The Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani voluntarily transferred power to his son, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, marking a peaceful transition of leadership and the continuation of Qatar’s national development.

Condolences have continued to arrive from leaders, governments and institutions around the world, reflecting the international recognition of his contributions to Qatar and his wider role in regional diplomacy and development.

May Allah Almighty have mercy upon HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, forgive him and grant him the highest place in Jannatul Firdaus.
