Mosquitoes are on the rise in Qatar! Here’s what you can do

1. Remove standing water

Mosquitoes lay eggs in stagnant water so it is vital to remove any stagnant water from your backyard and neighbourhood.

• Fix leaking water taps
• Remove excess water from plants and AC units
• Change water for pets and birds regularly
• Empty water from containers, barrels, and tyres
• Cover water tanks and wells tightly
• Clean fountains and swimming pools
• Report standing water in your area

2. Keep your home sealed

Install window screens and keep doors closed, especially during early morning and evening hours.

3. Use mosquito repellents

Apply skin-safe repellent creams or patches when spending time outdoors. You can also use insect sprays or electric repellants indoors.

4. Wear protective clothing

Light-coloured, long-sleeved clothing helps reduce bites, especially in the evenings.

5. Maintain cleanliness

Dispose of waste properly and keep surroundings clean to avoid attracting insects.

Treating a bite

Wash the area with soap and water. Apply ice to reduce bumps and swelling. Use a calamine lotion or hydrocortisone cream to reduce itching. Avoid scratching as it can leave a mark or cause an infection. Take antihistamines if you have allergies.
