6,000 roses for parents who showed up on the first school days

Qatar’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education has joined the “Wassel Ayalak” campaign, an initiative encouraging parents to play a more active role in their children’s everyday school experience.

As part of the campaign, the ministry distributed 6,000 roses to parents across 103 schools, recognising families who personally accompanied their children to school at the beginning of the new academic year.

The campaign was launched by the Ministry of Social Development and Family and is designed to highlight the importance of parental presence in children’s lives.

More than just a journey to school

The campaign encourages parents to view the daily school journey as more than a routine commute.

Instead, the time can be used for conversation, connection and building trust, helping children feel supported and emotionally prepared before starting their school day.

The initiative also aims to strengthen relationships between parents and children while reinforcing feelings of security, attention and stability.

Mariam Abdullah Al Mohannadi, Director of Public Relations and Communication at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, said the campaign’s wider message goes beyond simply taking children to school.

She stressed that a parent’s presence and involvement in the details of a child’s life can help shape their personality while strengthening their sense of security, care and belonging.

The distribution of 6,000 roses at 103 schools was intended as a symbolic gesture of appreciation to parents who shared the beginning of the school day with their children.

According to the ministry, the initiative received positive engagement from both parents and schools.

Parents as partners in education

The campaign also reflects cooperation between the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and the Ministry of Social Development and Family.

Both entities are working to reinforce the role of families as key partners in the educational and developmental process, while encouraging practices that strengthen communication between parents and children.

Campaign to continue throughout the school year

“Wassel Ayalak” will continue throughout the academic year through awareness content and interactive activities organised by the Ministry of Social Development and Family in collaboration with participating organisations.

The campaign aims to make parental involvement a consistent part of children’s educational journeys, rather than something limited to the beginning of the school year.
