Qatar condemns Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and Red Sea shipping

Qatar has strongly condemned Houthi attacks targeting civilian and economic sites in several areas of Saudi Arabia, while reaffirming its full solidarity with the Kingdom.

In a statement issued on September 8, 2026, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the attacks targeted sites in Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran, resulting in injuries to a number of civilians, including women and children.

The Ministry also condemned the continued targeting of commercial vessels in the Red Sea, warning that such attacks threaten the security, safety and freedom of international maritime navigation.

Qatar describes attacks as dangerous escalation

The Ministry described the attacks as a serious act of aggression and an unacceptable disregard for civilian lives and regional security.

It said the targeting of Saudi territory represents a violation of the Kingdom’s sovereignty and a breach of international law, while warning that the escalation poses a wider threat to stability in the region.

Call for international action

Qatar called on the international community to take a firm position against the attacks and to support the implementation of relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.

The statement specifically referenced Resolution 2216 on Yemen and Resolution 2722 concerning security and freedom of navigation in the Red Sea.

The Ministry also reaffirmed that freedom of navigation through international waterways is protected under international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

Full solidarity with Saudi Arabia

Qatar reiterated its full support for Saudi Arabia and backed the Kingdom’s right to take legitimate measures to protect its sovereignty, security, territorial integrity and national interests.

The Ministry stressed that Saudi Arabia’s security forms an integral part of the security of Qatar and the wider Gulf Cooperation Council.

Qatar also expressed its wishes for a speedy recovery for those injured in the attacks and reaffirmed its support for the Saudi people.
