The Ministry of Interior’s Penal and Correctional Institutions Department will begin offering products made by inmates for sale through the Sooum app from Sunday, July 19, 2026.
The initiative gives members of the public in Qatar a new way to view and purchase items produced by inmates through an official digital platform operated by the ministry.
Sooum is the Ministry of Interior’s application for auctions and goods offered for sale by its various departments. The platform supports different purchasing and bidding methods, interactive notifications and access using Metrash2 login details.
The introduction of inmate-made products through the app also brings greater public visibility to the practical skills developed within penal and correctional institutions.
The Penal and Correctional Institutions Department oversees care and rehabilitation activities and has previously highlighted educational and training achievements involving inmates, including graduation programmes.
By making the products available through Sooum, the ministry is connecting these activities with an established digital sales channel that is already used for goods and auctions managed by its departments.
The announcement did not specify the types or prices of the products that will be available, the duration of the sale or how the proceeds will be allocated.
