Qatar and China look to expand cooperation across key economic sectors

HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani met Premier of the State Council of China Li Qiang in Beijing on September 7, as Qatar and China look to strengthen their strategic relationship across several sectors.

The meeting took place during the Prime Minister’s official visit to China, which runs from September 7 to 8.

During the talks, the two sides reviewed bilateral relations and explored ways to expand cooperation in economy, investment, trade, energy and technology.

The discussions also focused on strengthening existing partnerships in ways that support the shared interests of Qatar and China.

During the meeting, Sheikh Mohammed reaffirmed Qatar’s interest in taking relations with China to broader levels and developing cooperation in areas of mutual importance.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on major regional developments.

Ahead of the visit, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said discussions with Chinese officials would address diplomatic efforts to reduce regional tensions, strengthen security and stability, and ensure the security and freedom of international navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
