The FEI Group VII Finals for Junior, Youth, and Young Riders continued at the Longines Arena at Al Shaqab on Thursday, with Qatar teams topping the CSIY-A - FEI Group VII Final - Round 1 (130cm) and CSICH-A - FEI Group VII Final - Round 2 (110cm).
More than 100 riders, from different countries in the region, are competing for a total prize purse of €318,000.
The competition began with the Junior class at 110cm. Seventeen riders qualified for the next individual class. In the team competition, Qatar took first place, followed by the UAE and Saudi Arabia. The awards were presented by Bader bin Mohammed Al Darwish, President of the Qatar Equestrian Federation, and HE Sultan Mohammed Al Yahyai, President of FEI Regional Group VII.
In the Junior class at 130cm, 15 riders completed a clear round in the individual competition, qualifying for the next round. Teams from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE participated in the team competition for the same class. The qualifiers were honored by Salmeen Al Suwaidi, the tournament’s sports director.
The under-25 riders’ class (140cm) was an all-Emirati affair. Saif Owaida Mohammed Al Kirbi claimed the top podium place with a time of 64.05sec riding Hui Buh21, followed by Mohammed Hamad Ali Al Kirbi in second in 64.24sec astride Lyon van de Plataan, while Omar Abdul Aziz Al Marzooqi on Billy Martini finished third in 67.55sec. The top five finishers were crowned by Abdullah Al Qashouti, the tournament’s marketing and communications manager.
On Friday, the action begins with a local class for the Junior category at a height of 110cm, followed by the Junior final at a height of 120cm for teams, then the Youth final at a height of 130cm for teams. The competitions will conclude with the Grand Prix class for riders under 25 at a height of 145cm.
The championship, for the first time, includes a class for riders under 25, representing a significant addition to the championship programme. This class aims to build a comprehensive foundation for young riders, enabling them to reach elite levels and enhancing their readiness for international competitions.
