Sweetened drink registrations in Qatar go fully digital from November 1

The General Tax Authority has announced a new electronic process for registering sweetened drinks in Qatar, with analysis certificates set to be approved directly through the Dhareeba platform from November 1, 2026.

Under the new system, Dhareeba will integrate directly with laboratories accredited by the Ministry of Public Health and registered with the General Tax Authority.

The change will remove the need for taxpayers to manually upload laboratory certificates during the product registration process.

How the new process will work

Businesses registering sweetened drink products will first submit their application through the Dhareeba platform.

They will then deliver product samples to an approved laboratory for testing.

Once the laboratory completes and approves the analysis, the test results and certificate will automatically be transferred to Dhareeba, where they will be linked to the relevant product registration.

This replaces the current manual process of attaching laboratory documentation to the application.

Faster and more accurate registrations

According to the General Tax Authority, the electronic integration is intended to reduce manual processing and make registrations more efficient.

Direct transmission between laboratories and Dhareeba is expected to:

• Reduce manual document uploads
• Improve the accuracy of submitted information
• Speed up product registration
• Strengthen coordination between government entities and approved laboratories

The update comes alongside the expansion of excise tax requirements for sweetened drinks.

The General Tax Authority said the move forms part of its wider strategy to improve digital services and strengthen electronic connectivity between government entities.

By connecting accredited laboratories directly with Dhareeba, the authority aims to make compliance procedures easier for businesses while creating a more efficient system for reviewing and approving sweetened drink registrations.
