Ministry of Public Health: 97% of 7,755 Food Samples Compliant in H1 2026
The Ministry of Public Health has announced the results of its National Food Monitoring and Surveillance Plan for the first half of 2026, with 97% of 7,755 food samples found to comply with approved requirements and technical regulations.
The Food Safety Department tested samples between January and June across a range of food products available in Qatar, including products sold in local markets and food imported through border entry points. Non-compliant samples accounted for 3% of those tested.
Fresh fruit and vegetables recorded a 98% compliance rate after 1,476 samples of local and imported products were tested for indicators including pesticide residues and microbial contaminants.
In the fish and seafood sector, 779 samples were tested, with a compliance rate exceeding 98%. The testing covered safety and quality indicators including chemical contaminants and factors related to proper handling and storage.
A further 1,374 samples of meat and poultry were tested, with more than 93% complying with requirements. Among 1,321 dairy product samples, the compliance rate exceeded 98%.
The Ministry said the monitoring programme follows a risk-based approach, directing surveillance towards widely consumed products and those most closely associated with public health, while supporting early detection of potential risks and preventive action.
The Ministry of Public Health said it will continue food surveillance while strengthening inspection, laboratory analysis and early-warning programmes to help ensure safe and wholesome food for consumers in Qatar.
