Ugandan Prince George Kamurasi Declines Tooro Kingdom Throne

Ugandan prince George Desmond Kamurasi has reportedly declined the throne of the Tooro Kingdom, choosing to continue his football career in England.

Kamurasi is a goalkeeper and captain of SE Dons, a football club based in south-east London that competes in England’s ninth tier. He was among the candidates considered to become the next Omukama, or king, of Tooro in western Uganda.

The succession process began after the death of his cousin, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, in August. According to reports, Kamurasi declined the role because other commitments would prevent him from carrying out the responsibilities of the position.

Following his decision, the succession committee selected Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma as the new monarch. Kijanangoma is a news presenter and editor at Uganda Broadcasting Corporation, the country’s state broadcaster.

The Tooro Kingdom is one of Uganda’s traditional kingdoms. Its king is known by the title Omukama.
