Who Is HE Sheikh Dr Tamim bin Mohammed Al Thani, QFA Vice President?

HE Sheikh Dr Tamim bin Mohammed Al Thani is the Vice President of the Qatar Football Association (QFA), serving in the federation's senior leadership alongside QFA President HE Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani.

His appointment comes after years of involvement in Qatari football administration at club level and places him in one of the country's most senior football leadership positions through the QFA's next elective General Assembly in 2027.

Appointed QFA Vice President in 2026

The QFA Executive Committee approved Sheikh Tamim's appointment as vice president on July 28, 2026, as part of changes to the federation's leadership following the resignations of former president Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain and former vice president Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Suwaidi.

The appointment was made to complete the current Board of Directors' term through 2027. On September 10, 2026, the QFA Ordinary General Assembly formally ratified Sheikh Dr Tamim's appointment as vice president until the next elective General Assembly.

The QFA's official Board of Directors page now lists HE Sheikh Tamim bin Mohammed Al Thani as Vice President.

Experience with Umm Salal

Before moving into senior leadership at the Qatar Football Association, Sheikh Tamim held administrative positions at Umm Salal Sports Club.

Official Umm Salal records identify him as the club's vice president in 2021. Earlier Qatar Stars League coverage also identified him as head of football at the club, a position in which he was involved in discussions around the first team, player recruitment, preparations and sporting performance.

He later served as both Vice President and Head of Football at Umm Salal, with responsibilities that included the first team’s preparations and player recruitment. 

Supporting the Development of Qatari Refereeing

One of Sheikh Tamim's first publicly reported activities as QFA Vice President came in August 2026, when he visited the elite referees camp ahead of the new domestic season.

During the visit, he reviewed the referees' preparation programme and praised the development of Qatari refereeing and its standing at regional, Asian and international levels. He also expressed his hope that Qatari referees would continue delivering strong performances in domestic and international competitions.

A Senior Role in Qatar Football

Sheikh Dr Tamim will serve as QFA Vice President through the current board term, ahead of the federation's elective General Assembly in 2027.

His appointment to the QFA vice presidency follows several years of football administration experience at Umm Salal and will run until the federation’s elective General Assembly in 2027.
