US President Donald J. Trump revealed that he intends to make some changes to his Cabinet, without identifying the departments concerned.
Trump said in excerpts from an interview with the CBS programme “60 Minutes,”: “I love my Cabinet. I think they’re good. But I’ll be doing maybe a few changes,” adding: “I don’t want to name names.”
Asked whether he had confidence in Pete Hegseth, the US president replied: “I do.” Secretary of War Hegseth faces moves to remove him from office after Democrats take control of Congress in January following their significant gains in Tuesday’s midterm elections.
On Friday, Trump appointed one of his closest advisers, Stephen Miller, as White House Chief of Staff, replacing Susie Wiles. Analysts viewed the move as the beginning of changes to the circle of advisers and Cabinet members appointed by the US president at the start of his second presidential term.
