The Council of the Arab League at the ministerial level has formally expressed its support for Qatar’s bid to host the 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The endorsement was included in a resolution issued during the 166th Ordinary Session of the Arab League Council, held at the Secretariat General headquarters in Cairo.
Arab states urged to support Qatar’s candidacy
The Council said its support forms part of wider efforts to strengthen the Arab world’s presence in international sport.
It called on Arab League member states to support Qatar’s candidacy for the 2036 Games in relevant international forums.
The move gives Qatar’s bid a broader regional political backing as the country continues to position itself as a potential host for one of the world’s largest sporting events.
Arab League to follow up on the resolution
The Council also tasked the Secretariat General of the Arab League with monitoring the implementation of the resolution.
The decision highlighted the importance of joint Arab coordination in supporting international initiatives and major sporting bids.
Qatar’s growing role in global sport
Qatar has built a strong profile in hosting major international sporting events over the past two decades, with extensive experience in stadium infrastructure, event operations, transport and large-scale international competitions.
The Arab League’s endorsement adds another layer of regional support to Qatar’s 2036 Olympic and Paralympic ambitions as the bid process develops.
