Arab Union for Volunteer Work to Honor 100 Volunteers on Arab Volunteering Day, Tuesday

The Arab Union for Volunteer Work will celebrate Arab Volunteering Day tomorrow, Tuesday, which falls on 15 September every year, during a ceremony to be held tomorrow evening at the headquarters of the Qatar Scouts and Guides Association. The ceremony will honour 100 volunteers from Qatar's Pioneers Team for Volunteer Work, in recognition of their giving, contributions to community service, and efforts to promote the culture of volunteering and consolidate the values of giving and social responsibility.

In this context, Dr Yousef Ali Al-Kazim, President of the Arab Union for Volunteer Work, said in a statement to Qatar News Agency, QNA, that this year's Arab Volunteering Day celebration is being held under the slogan "We Honour Giving and Celebrate Its Impact," affirming the importance of recognising volunteers who have made giving a way of life and contributed, through their efforts and initiatives, to creating a positive and sustainable impact in society.

He stressed that the Union is keen to revive this occasion annually, based on its belief that volunteer work is a fundamental pillar in consolidating human and ethical values, enhancing individuals' participation in building society and contributing to its development. He noted that, since its establishment, the Union's journey has witnessed many achievements, alongside the expansion of volunteer work and the growing number of volunteers, reflecting increased awareness of the importance of community participation and the role of volunteering in supporting development pathways.

Dr Al-Kazim explained that this year's celebration slogan reflects the Union's view of the value of volunteer work, which is not measured only by the number of hours or initiatives, but by the real and sustainable impact volunteers leave in the lives of individuals and communities. He noted that a volunteer does not offer only time and effort, but contributes to creating change, building bridges of cooperation and turning initiatives into a sustainable impact that benefits society. He added that this year's slogan was chosen following the launch of the Dr Kazem Nouri Volunteer Work Award, which aims to honour inspiring examples in volunteer work and encourage more initiatives that contribute to sustainable development and strengthen social cohesion. He explained that the celebration will include the announcement of the award winners. The award has five main categories: the Individual Leadership Award, the Institutional Excellence Award, the International Volunteer Work Award, the Arab Volunteer Work Award, and the International or Regional Organisations Award. He noted that the award received 44 projects and initiatives this year across its five categories, reflecting the diversity of volunteer experiences and initiatives and the expanding fields of volunteer work at local, Arab and international levels.

He said the celebration programme will also include the announcement of the fourth edition of the short-story competition for children and young people aged 10 to 17 and the unveiling of the story topic for this edition. He explained that the competition reflects the Union's keenness to reach new generations, instil the values of volunteering, giving and social responsibility in them, and encourage them to express these values through creativity and writing, contributing to raising a generation that believes in the importance of participation and community service. He said that the celebration of Arab Volunteering Day is not limited to Qatar, as Union members in various Arab countries participate in commemorating the occasion by organising volunteer events, activities and initiatives in their countries, reflecting the unity of the Arab volunteer message and the integration of efforts among volunteers, institutions and relevant bodies. He stressed that the growing interest in volunteer work among local, Arab and international communities, institutions and bodies reflects the strength of noble human values and contributes to mobilising human energies and capabilities and directing them towards construction and development.

Arab Volunteering Day represents an annual occasion to renew the commitment to supporting and empowering volunteers, moving volunteering from individual initiatives to sustainable institutional work, and strengthening partnerships that make volunteering an effective force in serving people and society and achieving development. This year's celebration slogan, "We Honour Giving and Celebrate Its Impact," embodies the Union's view of the value of volunteer work, which is not measured only by the number of hours or initiatives, but by the real and sustainable impact volunteers leave in the lives of individuals and communities. The President of the Arab Union for Volunteer Work noted that this year's celebration has special importance in light of the Arab Union for Volunteer Work's long-standing journey. The Union was established in 2003 as an Arab framework bringing together volunteer efforts, supporting and spreading the culture of volunteer work, and promoting cooperation and the exchange of expertise among institutions, teams and volunteers in Arab countries. It is worth noting that the Arab Union for Volunteer Work was established on a Qatari initiative in 2003, and Doha was selected as its headquarters during the Union's founding meeting. It aims to strengthen cooperation among volunteer bodies in the Arab world and currently has 19 Arab countries as members.
