Qatar and Saudi Arabia to Gradually Expand Acceptance of National Payment Cards
The Saudi Central Bank (SAMA), in cooperation with Qatar Central Bank, announced that acceptance of Saudi Arabia's “mada” cards in Qatar and Qatar's “HIMYAN” cards in Saudi Arabia will be rolled out gradually.
The initiative reflects continued cooperation and integration between the two countries in payments. It also supports joint GCC efforts to develop shared payment infrastructure and expand national-card acceptance across the region.
Through the Gulf Payment Network (GCC-NET), GCC citizens and residents can withdraw cash from ATMs and make payments at point-of-sale terminals using debit cards linked to the GCC network. The system is intended to make payments easier, more efficient and less costly while improving services across the Gulf.
