Qatar Basketball Team Loses To Jordan At Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games

Qatar’s men’s basketball team lost 76-65 to Jordan in its second Group 2 match at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games in Tokyo on Saturday.

Qatar had opened its campaign with a 59-53 victory over Iran. The team will face Chinese Taipei on Sunday in its final preliminary-round match.

The men’s basketball competition features 12 teams divided into three groups. Group 1 includes Japan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia, while Group 2 comprises Qatar, Iran, Jordan and Chinese Taipei. Group 3 consists of China, the Philippines, Bahrain and Kazakhstan.

The top teams will advance to the knockout stages after the group phase, with the men’s basketball final scheduled for Sunday, September 20.

The Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games will officially open in Japan on September 19 and continue until October 4. Qatar is participating with a delegation of 243 athletes, including 184 men and 59 women, representing 18 sports federations.

Qatar won 14 medals at the previous Asian Games in Hangzhou in 2023, including five gold, six silver and three bronze medals.
