Qatar launches third Khebrat fellowship cohort for teachers and educational mentors

The Ministry of Education and Higher Education has launched the third cohort of the Qatari Teachers’ Fellowship Program, Khebrat, continuing its efforts to strengthen the professional development of national teaching talent.

The programme, first introduced during the 2023–24 academic year, is designed to help Qatari teachers develop their professional and educational skills while gaining exposure to regional and international best practices.

This year’s cohort includes 20 teachers specialising in Arabic language and Islamic education in public schools, along with 8 educational mentors from the Ministry.

Three-stage programme

Khebrat is structured around three main phases.

The programme begins in Doha with an orientation and preparation week, where participants are introduced to the programme stages, expectations and required outputs.

This is followed by a period of professional experience in Riyadh, where participants will observe and engage with educational practices outside Qatar.

The final stage takes place back in Doha, where participants will develop and implement projects based on the knowledge and experience gained during the fellowship.

Teachers to spend more than a month in Riyadh

Participating teachers will undertake their professional experience in Riyadh from September 27 to November 5, 2026.

Educational mentors will take part in the Riyadh phase from October 25 to November 5, 2026.

The experience is intended to give participants the opportunity to explore new teaching approaches, exchange professional knowledge and identify innovative practices that can support educational development in Qatar.

School visits form part of preparation

As part of the orientation phase, experts and supervisors visited participants’ schools and attended classroom sessions.

These visits were designed to provide a clearer understanding of the teaching methods and educational environment currently used in Qatari public schools before participants begin the external fellowship experience.

The orientation week also prepares participants for the development projects they will complete after returning to Qatar.

Focus on national teaching talent

The Khebrat programme aims to strengthen the professional standing of Qatari teachers and encourage more young Qataris to consider careers in education.

It also supports the Ministry’s wider efforts to attract, train and retain national talent while improving the readiness of educators to contribute to the development of Qatar’s school system.

Through the programme, the Ministry is seeking to create sustainable professional development opportunities while reinforcing the role of teachers in improving learning outcomes and preparing future generations for changing educational and workforce needs.
