Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani has stressed the need to resolve ongoing conflict in the Middle East “through peaceful means”, as he warned of “serious repercussions” of a military escalation.

Al Thani, who also serves as Qatar’s foreign minister, issued the remarks during his phone call with Spanish counterpart José Manuel Albares, according to the Qatari foreign ministry.

In a post on X, the ministry reported that the two officials affirmed the “necessity of stopping Iran’s unjustified aggression” against Qatar and other countries in the region.

Al Thani also stressed the need to “return to the negotiating table, and prioritise the language of reason and wisdom to contain the crisis”.

Meanwhile, Albares expressed his country’s “solidarity” with Qatar, while stressing the importance of “de-escalation, preserving civilian infrastructure and facilities, and ensuring the safety of the energy sector”, the ministry added.
