Employers in Qatar must transfer wages within 7 days of the due date

Qatar has introduced an amendment to its Wage Protection System (WPS) regulations, setting out clearer timelines for employers to transfer workers’ salaries.

The change was published by the Ministry of Justice in Official Gazette Issue No. 15 of 2026 on September 8, through Minister of Labour Decision No. 50 of 2026.

The decision amends provisions of Ministerial Decision No. 4 of 2015 governing the Wage Protection System for employees covered by Qatar’s Labour Law.

Employers given seven days to transfer wages

Under the amended Article 2, employers are required to deposit workers’ wages into their bank accounts at financial institutions in Qatar within seven days of the date the wages become due.

The payment must be processed through the Wage Protection System, which is used to electronically monitor salary payments and ensure workers receive their wages through approved financial channels.

When are wages due?

The amendment also sets out the payment schedule for different categories of workers.

For employees whose wages are calculated on a monthly or annual basis, wages are due on the first day of each calendar month.

For other workers, wages are to be paid at least once every two weeks.

Employers must then complete the bank transfer through WPS within the prescribed seven-day period.

Decision takes effect immediately

The decision was issued by Minister of Labour Dr Ali bin Samikh Al-Marri.

According to the Official Gazette, all relevant authorities are required to implement the amendment within their respective areas of responsibility.

The decision takes effect from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette on September 8, 2026.

The updated rules form part of Qatar’s continued regulation of wage payments through the WPS framework, which is intended to improve transparency and ensure salaries are paid through monitored banking channels.
