US Central Command announced on Thursday that it had completed its latest wave of military strikes against Iran.

In a statement, CENTCOM said the operation targeted Iranian command centres, air defence sites, missile and drone capabilities, and coastal surveillance facilities.

The command said the strikes were intended to further weaken Iran’s ability to threaten commercial vessels travelling through the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway for global trade and energy transportation.

Precision-guided munitions were used to strike several locations, including targets in the southern Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas.

CENTCOM also confirmed that an earlier wave of strikes, conducted on Wednesday, lasted 90 minutes and targeted coastal defence systems and cruise missile storage and launch sites on Greater Tunb Island.
