Liverpool beat Brighton as Manchester United slump to 3-0 defeat

Liverpool defeated Brighton 2-0 today in the eighth round of the English Football League, which saw Manchester United lose to Bournemouth with a clean sheet.

In the first match, Liverpool continued their strong performances recently, scoring Brighton's Pascal Gross (17 fouls in his team's goal) and Alexander Isak (21). With this win, Liverpool raised their tally to 15 points and advanced to fourth place at the expense of Chelsea, taking advantage of the latter's loss next Wednesday in the League Cup competition, against neighbors Tottenham 2-0 on Saturday.

In the second match, Manchester United suffered another defeat that puts the fate of their coach Michael Carrick in the wind, and came at home to Bournemouth 0-3.

Bournemouth took the lead through Brazilian Ryan in the 38th minute, while his England teammates Marcos Taverné and Brazilian Evanilsson added the second and third goals in the 43rd and 71st minutes respectively.

Manchester United, who suffered a 4-1 loss to Italian side Como in last week's Champions League, continued their disappointing results this season, after failing to win for the eighth consecutive game in all competitions, as they achieved 3 draws and 5 defeats during that series.

Manchester United, who are suffering their worst start to the Premier League since 1986, are frozen at 7 points in 16th place, just one point ahead of the relegation places.

On the other hand, Bournemouth, who have maintained their unbeaten record in 7 consecutive games in all competitions, increased to 9 points in 13th place.

After suffering their first defeat at the hands of Liverpool in the previous round, Brentford came back from Hull City with a 1-1 draw, raising their tally to 11 points in sixth place, ahead of Newcastle, who beat hosts Crystal Palace by two goals without reply.
